Shaping up to be a good week

November 13th, 2012 (07:54 pm)

Last weekend was rather lovely. My husband`s company had their Christmas party in the 1000 Islands, a spot where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River, near the border to the US. Very peaceful, and they supplied the meals and the room. Nice group of people, too.

Today is Diwali, and they`re releasing Shahrukh Khan`s latest film, Jab Tak Hain Jaan. Not long ago, director Yash Chopra announced that this would be his last film, and very quickly thereafter passed away. I`m really looking forward to this, and since I`m not booked all week (at this point anyway) I`ll hopefully see it on Thursday.

This weekend is Genrecon, a new convention in Guelph (near Toronto and I`m going on Saturday with a friend.) One of the guests is Mark Lutz from Angel and I`ve never met him. They`ve also just added Connor Stanhope, the young man who played Lex Luthor as a child on Smallville. They`ve also got Tom Lenk and Nick Brendon, among many others. This was a quandry, because there`s a first-time Doctor Who convention called Regenerations in town that same day and I had to choose one. But gee whiz - it`s The Groosalugg.

Sunday is the biggest day of all. Four of us are driving down to Buffalo to see - The Monkees! With Mike Nesmith!! How amazingly awesome is that?

So yeah, pretty good week indeed.

Seasonal Spuffy

October 6th, 2012 (07:57 pm)

I don't sign up for SS anymore, since it moved to Dreamwidth. But I think I might try writing a story based on the theme (Time After Time) and post it here. I also have my Heroine's Fest story to finish (start? Well, I've been researching) and I may have articles for the magazine this month.

Trying to get a little something written besides Bollywood previews. We'll see.

Plus, sewing for Christmas. Or, in other words, excuses to sit on my lazy butt and still think I'm accomplishing something. ;)

Naseeruddin Shah

October 5th, 2012 (12:25 am)

You may not know the name, but if you saw League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, you saw him play Captain Nemo. He is, of course, a very big name in India and an excellent actor, particularly known for parallel cinema aka the independent film of the 70s.

I don't have an icon with him, so that's Shahrukh Khan who played his son in Main Hoon Na.

Anyway, last weekend I saw Mr. Shah play Mr. Shaw in Dear Liar, a play based on the letters between George Bernard Shaw and the actress Mrs. Campbell, played by his wife Ratna Pathak Shah. It was a wonderful play, which you might expect, since they've been acting together on stage for thirty years.

Tonight I went to a Q&A at the Bell Lightbox film centre, with Richie Mehta, director of the film Amal, doing the interview. Fascinating. They then introduced Amal, which I enjoyed seeing again on the big screen (even though I have the DVD. Besides, we couldn't take photos at the Q&A but they didn't stop us during the introduction. BTW, I saw the film at TIFF before Chuck started, and Vik Sahay has the most gorgeous eyes. They look big on TV, but they're amazing projected huge. :)

Mr. Shah.

I had a nice evening

Yep. Very nice evening.

I'm a little behind

September 13th, 2012 (08:20 am)

I've been hitting the film festival pretty heavily (Monday I saw four films, though I admit one was Total Recall while I was waiting for a festival film) and I haven't been checking LJ. The big excitement was not only seeing Joss on Sunday, but getting his autograph. :)

Oh, and this

SAM_0088 (Colleen)

Look at the wee little man over our shoulders.

Tonight my friend and I are going to see a talk with Alexander Siddig (El Fadil) on his new film, tomorrow I'm working (such a novel concept), Saturday I have a festival film in the morning, a new Hindi film that's out in the afternoon, and same Mr. Siddig's film in the evening.) Sunday TIFF ends with Reluctant Fundamentalist and I'll see if I can get into the People's Choice film.

Then it's back to normal (or as normal as it ever is.)

The ongoing TIFF

September 8th, 2012 (09:43 am)

People I saw Thursday - Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, her husband that guy from The Office. Yesterday - Ben Affleck, Julianne Moore and Alexander Vampire. Also saw an excellent film called Ship of Theseus. Today - Much Ado About Nothing (or how to stand in a line for hours in the rain.) :)

I love my festival.

TIFF time again

September 2nd, 2012 (03:30 pm)

I got my ticket to the premiere of Much Ado About Nothing directed by that Whedon guy. Got a bunch of others, mostly Indian films, and the ones I didn't get I can hang around the red carpet and go to the regular cinemas when they come out. If there's any free time when I'm not working, I can play Russian Roulette (a practice dubbed by a friend whereby you go to the box office and buy a ticket for whatever's available.)

Good times. :)

What did you do on the weekend?

August 28th, 2012 (11:10 am)

Saw my Mr. Marsters but missed his panel (because I got locked out - too many people and I'd been in the room previously for Alan Tudyk.) So also, met Alan Tudyk, John Rys Davies, watched my friend get bonked on the head by John Barrowman's used kleenex (after which she was carrying it around in a baggie), and OMG met Gillian Anderson! who signed my X-Files jacket. Watched John give Ajay Fry from Innerspace (SF talk show) a lap dance and heard him sing a duet from Phantom with my friend Lyla. Met Christopher Lloyd (briefly), heard Billy West do a multitude of voices, saw cast members from Flashpoint and Continuum, saw set displays from Burton's Frankenweenie, saw the preview for next week's Doctor Who season opener and most important of all, hung out with my beautiful niece and saw the joy of fandom through her eyes afresh.

So, good weekend, all in all. :)

Someone else has been reading my fics on AO3. :)

The Kinda Gay Awards

I got shut out of the James Marsters panel today. :( However a friend says she's loading it on youtube, and I did get to the Continuum panel instead.

Fan Expo, awayyyyyy!

August 23rd, 2012 (08:11 am)

Heading soon to Fan Expo with my niece, the one big comic con I can get to on transit. Really, for all the autographs and photo sessions cost, it's a lot cheaper than a plane ticket and hotel room. :)

John Barrowman (squee!) Alan Tudyk (more squee!) my James (oh, yeah!), Nelsan Ellis (!) Christopher Lloyd (icon!) Gillian Anderson (eeeeeeeeee!!!)

Guests have cancelled, guests I wanted to see, but there's still more than I have time for. Plus, hanging with friends is always good. Oh, and tasabian , if Juliet Landau has a copy of the Take Flight DVD on her table, snag one for yourself, if only for the interview with Mr. Rosenbaum.

Also, main cast members from Criminal Minds and Flashpoint, and a preview of JJ Abrams newest.

Long lines, but good times! And Pocky!
