Back from New York - look, TV!

September 27th, 2013 (07:45 pm)

Had a marvelous time in NYC with my daughter and chenanceou last weekend. Did sooo many cool things. My daughter must have a built-in GPS because she's never been before and she knew her way around almost instinctively. Delightful to watch her during her first airplane ride.

So, the TV season so far (no spoilers):

SHIELD - meh. Some nice dialogue, fond of Clark Gregg already, like Ming Na Wen, rest of cast can fall in a black hole without me noticing.

Sleepy Hollow - Double meh. Listen and you can hear Washington Irving roll in his grave, and this time we don't have Johnny Depp to cushion the sound.

The Blacklist - Favourite new show so far. Oh, Spader... Oooh, will Shatner guest at some point?

Crazy Ones - I really loved this. I think Robin and Sarah are a good team and unlike a lot of people I know, I enjoy the work of David E. Kelly.

Michael J. Fox - Trying a little too hard to be edgy and cute at the same time, but hey, Michael J. Fox.

Oh, and the Elementary season premiere? Son of a Doctor!

Agree about Shield. Never liked any previous version of Sleepy Hollow, including the short story, so happy to see canon right out the window & two cute leads.

Didn't see the Blacklist yet. Much catch up. Spader is wonderful.

I'm so with you there with SHIELD. I had high expectations and I found myself bored aside from Clark Gregg and Ming Na Wen, but even then it wasn't even to keep me invested. I'll keep watching, see if it grabs me at some point.

I am watching Sleepy Hollow and enjoying it well enough, but it's not thrilling me all that much. It's fluffy and silly, despite trying to be scary. The lead fellow's rather nice and Clancy Brown's in it in part and he's one of my most faves.

I'm so married to genre that I'm not really interested in anything else yet. There's Atlantis coming from the UK and The Three Musketeers too. But there again I'm not seeing anything that I'm excited for.

I was really hoping to find a new show to fall in love with, but it's not going to be this season, I don't think, sadly.

I agree with you on SHIELD and Sleepy Hollow, though I think Sleepy Hollow could grow on me and I'm going to give it a couple of more weeks to find it's stride.

I also agree about Michael J. Fox, though once again, I think it has potential after they get through their "setup" baggage. Fox is still a compelling performer, despite his illness.

I missed The Crazy Ones. I'm going to have to pick it up next week.

I too liked The Blacklist. Lots of twisty-turny plot potential there and James Spader has certainly evolved from the pretty boy of Sex, Lies and Videotape to become an actor with real gravitas.
